Bug season survival guide: remove baked-on insects fast while preserving clearcoat, gelcoat and decals

Bug season is coming up quick, and those baked-on lovebugs and midges can etch clearcoat, stain gelcoat, and melt vinyl decals. If you attack them the wrong way you will spend hours trying to remove them and risk damaging your RVs finish. Here’s how you easily and safely clean bugs off your RVs front cap after a fun trip without sacrificing your finish. But, by using Wade Maid’s Bug and Animal remover, if you can hit it this will remove it!

Quick bug-removal checklist:

• Avoid scouring pads and magic erasers.
• Start cool and in the shade: Wet your RVs front cap with plenty of fresh water, Bug & Animal remover needs water to activate the product ; never work on hot surfaces.
• Mix Wade Maid Bug & Animal in a bucket with water per directions and apply liberally to front cap with a scratch free wash brush
• Let dwell, don’t scrub: allow 2–4 minutes of dwell. Keep surfaces wet; avoid drying.
• If using a power washer protect decal edges: Work from the decal outward, not against exposed edges. Skip high-pressure nozzles up close to vinyl or striping.
• Spray the surface starting at the lowest point and working your way up. This will avoid removing the product before it can melt the bugs away. Then follow up with a final rinse from the top down. No need to neutralize or re-wax your RVs front cap as Wade Maid Bug & Animal is not a wash soap.
• For stubborn baked on bugs : Spot-treat by repeating process until the bugs are gone.

Pro tip: Before your next trip during bug season, use Wade Wax on your front cap to allow bugs to release even easier. .

Stay ahead of the swarms sticking to your front caps, clearcoat, gelcoat. Your RV will thank you.
