FAQ deep dive: how often should you decontaminate and wax your RV?
One of the questions we’re asked most: how often should you decontaminate and wax your RV? The short answer: more than you think—especially if you want that flawless, glassy finish to last season after season.
Decontamination removes embedded contaminants like iron fallout, road film, tar, and tree sap that regular washes leave behind. In coastal, urban, or high-mileage environments, plan on a full chemical and mechanical decontamination every 6 months. For coaches stored indoors or used lightly, once a year is usually sufficient. This keeps the paint or gelcoat clean, prevents staining, and ensures your protection (wax) bonds properly.
Quick checklist to keep your coach show-ready:
• Store indoors or use a breathable cover; consider PPF for high-impact zones.
• Wash as needed with pH-neutral soap, like Wade Maid Beast Wash, or plain water.
• Protect with a high-grade wax, like Wade Maid Wade Wax; boost every 3 months.
• Full decontamination 2 times per year (iron remover, tar remover, clay as needed).
• Paint correction only as required.
If you don’t like the extra maintenance plan based on your usage and storage conditions, consider a Duratain Protective Coating that will greatly reduce your maintenance, we’re here to help keep your coach touring-ready and camera-ready.
